Description:

Brancaia’s wines have today won international attention for their very high quality and for the care at the same time for tradition and experimentation, but the estate as we know it today has a rather recent history. In 1981 Bruno and Brigitte Eidmer decided to buy the abandoned Brancaia company and to start their wine production business, which is now carried on by the second generation of the family.
Thanks to the great attention to the local tradition, in particular with their Chianti Classico, and at the same time the curiosity for innovation and experimentation, Brancaia is today a reality of great value, with a property in the Chianti Classico, more closely linked to traditional vines, and one in Maremma, where international grapes and the most modern wines find their place.
Ilatraia is the most important wine of this second reality, but the Company is keen to emphasize how, even if it is a blend of international grapes, the great commitment in the vineyard, respect for the soil and organic cultivation techniques of minimal intervention, make, in fact, this wine a true representative of the Maremma territory. International varieties find their local interpretation here, for a wine capable of speaking to the whole world by representing its land of origin.
Ilatraia, which was born with the first harvest in 2002, bears the name of one of the most important hills of the estate, on which the Petit Verdot grows. The soil here is mainly sandy, rich in silt and clay, and its exposure to the West and South-West allows the influence of the sea breeze and a good daytime excursion. The wine has received acclaim and awards from numerous international critics and has been included in Wine Spectator’s “100 Top Wines” three times.


Tasting Notes and Pairing:
A warm, complex wine, rich in tertiary aromas. Wet earth, tobacco, berries, framed by a mineral note and a long and precise finish.
The producer recommends a pairing with poultry dishes, fried or braised meat or game and wild boar tagliatelle.
Suggested serving temperature:
16-18 °C
Suggestion to open it about 1 to 2 hours before serving it. And let it breath in the glass as well.
in the vineyard:
Organic viticulture (organic certification in 2019), greening, care for biodiversity.
Production method and aging:
Fermentation with native yeasts. Then it is aged in barriques for 18 months (50% new) and subsequently at least one year in the bottle.

EVENTS

  • Members of the Club will be informed via email and on their personal website page of any event planned by the San Maurizio Wine Club for its members.

Events may be free or with an access fee and they may allow to be accompanied by a partner.
