Description:

The entrepreneur Gianni Masciarelli, who has always been a passionate experimenter in the oenological field, officially began his adventure in the world of wine in 1981 on the estate in San Martino sulla Marruccina, in the province of Chieti. Today it has become a historical reference point for Abruzzo viticulture and wine, the property boasts vineyards in four provinces of the region and five different production lines, to best represent the individual personalities within the company.
Despite its extension, Masciarelli has always been a family-run business and the family has been the greatest thrust of innovation and experimentation of the company, which, thanks to the strong personality of its founder, has always pushed itself towards the search for quality and new. In 1987 Marina Cvetic joined the adventure, becoming Gianni’s wife and representing a great support to the curious and passionate spirit of the company, founding her own line of products, inspired by her personal taste. After Gianni’s death, in 2008 it was Marina, flanked by her daughter, to carry on the company.
Villa Gemma is the line of the range that most closely follows the style of Gianni Masciarelli. Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is produced with a selection of grapes from two crus, close to the winery and is today an essential step towards approaching this appellation.


Tasting Notes and Pairing:
An intense and elegant wine, with brandied cherry notes, then typical tertiary notes like cocoa and coffee. In the mouth it is surprising for its smoothness and refined tannins. Perfect to pair with savoury “primi” and with red meat. An ideal and typical pairing is the one with sheep or lamb roasted meat. Song: Volare, Domenico Modugno.
Suggested serving temperature:
16-18 °C
Possibly open it about 1 to 2 hours before serving it. And let it breath in the glass as well.
in the vineyard:
Harvest occured by hand, in the second half of October.
Production method and aging:
After the fermentation, that occurs in stainless steel tanks, the wine is aged in french oak barriques.
