Description:

Castello dei Rampolla is located in Panzano in Chianti, inside the so-called Conca d’Oro, a hilly amphitheater (conca) overlooking the Pesa river, with limestone soil rich in pebbles, named d’Oto (of gold) for the traditional cultivation of wheat on these lands, now voted to the vines. This blessed plot of land hosts, among the others, the Fontodi Company and a number of exceptionally qualitative producers.
Castello dei Rampolla has belonged to the Naples family since 1739 and in 1965 Alceo di Napoli inherits the Company. The man, ambitious and curious, was always passionate about Solaia, also since at the time the Company’s fruits were sold to the Antinori Estate. Therefore, in 1975, Alceo decided to produce its own wines, asking for the help of the well-known enologist Giacomo Tachis. Due to his passion for Super-Tuscans, the owner decides to plant Bordeaux varieties, something that was not common in the Chianti area at the time. The property therefore begins to devote more and more land to the production of wine, converting the crops and therefore operating on completely new land for this production, not yet stressed by the cultivation of the vine. The experiment was successful and since then the estate has been considered one of the best in the area. In 1991, with the death of Alceo, the management of the Company was inherited by the children who, as early as 1994, began the conversion to biodynamic, adding the official certification to a tradition that has always distinguished the property.
D’Alceo, born in 1996, is the company’s first officially biodynamic wine, becoming the top of the range of the Company’s collection. 2001 is a particularly important, turning point year: one of the excellent vintages of the area and at the same time a demonstration of the progressive integration of the biodynamic method with the company’s production. Particularly reticent in the early years, perfect for a long aging.

Tasting Notes and Pairing:
A unique combination of power and elegance, this wine has attracted attention from its very youth and it continues to amaze. Dried flowers, earthiness, berries and notes of sweet spices. On the palate it is complex, deep and layered, extremely fine and delicate with perfectly integrated tannins.
To combine with a cut of red meat cooked in a simple way, a platter of cold cuts and cheeses or a rich savory pie.
Suggested serving temperature:
16-18 °C
Suggestion to open it about 1 to 2 hours before serving it. And let it breath in the glass as well.
in the vineyard:
Certified biodynamic farming. Manual harvest.
Production method and aging:
Fermentation in concrete tanks, aging in French barriques for 18 months.
