Giuseppe Quintarelli is one of the mythological personalities of Italian wine in the world and one of the putative fathers of Amarone as we know it today.
The company was founded at the beginning of the 1900s, but its fame and the unmistakable characteristics come up in the 1950s, after moving to the Negrar valley and with the young Giuseppe who entered the management of the Company and wrote the history of these wines (it is Quintarelli who, apparently by chance, discovered the Recioto, from a forgotten bottle of Amarone).
The geographical area, in the Valpolicella, under the denomination of “Classico”, the soils of volcanic origin but above all the hand of Giuseppe Quintarelli have made his wines almost legendary for structure, complexity and a unique aging potential, thanks to which the wines retain their vitality even decades later.
Among his innovations: the use of unconventional varieties such as Nebbiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese or Croatina for up-to 15% of the blend, the use of exclusively organic techniques, but also unique labels, initially handwritten which still today maintain the unique handwriting of the cellar.
Giuseppe Quintarelli, known as the “Master of the Veneto” passed away in 2012, at the age of 84, but the Company, strictly family-run, brings on his legacy.
2009 was a particularly hot for the region, with extremely ripe grapes, but with thick skins that were able to resist mold delivering structured wines, with the potential for a long aging.
